She studied chemistry at Leicester University UK and De Montfort University, Leicester UK. She obtained a PhD in Analytical Chemistry after developing methods for the very low level analysis of tri-butyl tin compounds. After graduating, she set up and managed an analytical laboratory for Schering Agrochemicals to analyze marine and coastal waters for the presence of tri-butyl tin. Tri-butyl tin was used in antifouling paints but is toxic to a wide range of marine organisms at very low levels. She has been teaching in Antigua for 16 years, previously at the Antigua State College where she taught advanced level chemistry and undergraduate courses for the University of the West Indies.
