Seymour Schwartz is the Provost, Professor of surgery and Interim Clinical Dean. He served as the Chair of the University of Rochester School of Medicine Department of Surgery. He has received an appointment as Distinguished Alumni Professor from the University of Rochester, School of Medicine. Dr. Schwartz has published extensively. However, he is probably best known for his text book, Principles of Surgery, which is considered by many as the definitive text book on the practice of surgery, and which is used in almost every United States medical school. In addition, Dr. Schwartz has authored close to a dozen other text books that are used in medical schools across the United States. He has published more than fifty individual chapters of various text books, over 200 articles, and continues to lecture extensively at medical schools throughout the United States and the world.
